SHARE YOUR TRADE SKILLS – TRY A TRAINING JOB

There’s no doubt about it, trades open a lot of doors. This is none truer than in the Education industry, where many experienced tradesmen and women have moved on from their standard trade jobs, and elected to share their skills with students and apprentices.

A wide variety of tradespeople find opportunities to do this in the large Western Australian regional town of Kalgoorlie, home to the Curtin Vocational Training and Education Centre (VTEC).

This organisation delivers a wide range of training to individuals and community groups, along with highly specialised training to industry.

VTEC offers a variety of vocational courses, from Certificate to Advanced Diploma level, as well as short courses, all of which are industry endorsed and nationally accredited.

To train students in these courses, VTEC relies upon qualified electricians, carpenters, metal fabricators, mining professionals, auto-electricians and more to share their knowledge.

Another major base for tradies-turned-trainers is Careers Australia Institute of Training (CAIT), which operates from South East Queensland.

CAIT provides training in over 70 courses in apprenticeship based trades and is registered to offer courses in Automotive, Construction, Business Services, Engineering and Hospitality.

This means CAIT regularly has employment opportunities for qualified mechanics, carpenters, cabinet makers, plumbers, electricians, tilers, boilermakers, welders and more.

Traditionally, the types of tradespeople who are considered ideal for training roles will have their specific trade qualifications, significant experience in the field and the maturity and dedication to teach their skills to students and apprentices.

Also, depending on the employer, training qualifications (or being in the process of achieving them) are often held in high regard.

A major benefit of working as a trades trainer, is the perks that come with working for educational institutions. For example, staff at Curtin VTEC in Kalgoorlie enjoy a generous settling-in allowance, air fare payments, possible government housing and up to $2110 per year in district allowance.

In addition, you will enjoy fantastic job security by helping overcome Australia’s skill shortage, and passing your skills on to the next generation of tradespeople.
